J.F. White, as Boston Power Group, was contracted
to install underground process piping and plumbing for
the Sithe Power Plants. The work for this project included
installing carbon steel, stainless steel, HDPE, CPVC,
PVDF, PPL and cast iron soil weight piping systems. Pipe
sizes ranged from three-quarter inch to sixteen inch. This
work was performed in accordance with the new ASME
B31.1 power plant codes.
One important part of this job was meeting an aggressive
project completion date. In order to speed the
project toward completion, J.F. White prefabricated
portions of the pipe systems in order to minimize the
amount of time that the excavated areas were open. This
time-saving technique allowed J.F. White to focus on
the next phase of the project and to eliminate
heavy job site traffic.
This project demonstrates how close coordination between J.F. White’s Civil and Mechanical groups created a synergistic team that could meet the requirements of a demanding project schedule.
