J. F. White Contracting Company worked closely with the State House and the Division of Capital Asset Management representatives to remove and replace the below-grade brick and steel vault arch roof of the former coal storage room, built in 1900. The removal of the roof required protection of sensitive switch gear, computer and communication equipment.
In order to accomplish this, J. F. White installed a temporary roof below the existing roof (with shoring), a temporary plywood deck, and a bituthene waterproofing system. Above the temporary roof, a wood lagging shield was installed to protect the temporary roof from demolition debris. This method ensured that the regular business of the State House was uninterrupted during this extensive demolition.
