Norumbega Constructors, a J.F. White / Slattery Joint Venture, was awarded the contract to design and build a covered storage tank for Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA). The MWRA is responsible for supplying drinking water to over two million people in 46 cities and towns. This project was a key element in their plan to replace a one hundred year old system of open reservoirs with covered water storage tanks. The covered tanks preserve drinking water quality by eliminating the risks of contamination and bring the water system into compliance with newer Federal Regulations.

Norumbega Constructors teamed with Metcalf and Eddy, Inc. and Weidlinger Associates to design and build the 115 million tank which covers 17.4 acres and is up to 70 feet higher than the existing ground. The three sections of the storage tank were opened in accordance with the MWRA's scheduled completion dates.
