NSTAR contracted J.F. White to excavate and install conduit ductbanks on NSTAR's electrical infrastructure. First, J.F. White brought in its heavy civil team to dig the ductbanks. Within the conduit ductbanks in place, J.F. White's NSTAR-certified electrician's were called to install and splice 700kcmil, 15kv flat strap cable.
The most challenging part of this project was working in and around the streets of Boston. The tight space, the level of traffic, and the varied manhole conditions required J.F. White to remain flexible and alert to the numerous safety hazards presented. For example, most all of the manholes accessed on the projects were underwater. This meant that the electrical team had to first pump out each manhole before it could begin creating a safe space in which to perform the necessary work. In addition J.F. White worked closely with NSTAR to ensure that the electrical team scheduled was synchronized with the larger NSTAR de-energizing, re-energizing and cross-cut over schedule.
This project demonstrates that J.F. White's highly skilled electrical team can work safely and skillfully in a variety of working conditions while coordinating with larger client project requirements.
