The reconstruction of the Wood Island Station in East Boston is one of many projects J.F. White has undertaken for the Mass Bay Transit Authority.

The rapid transit station also serves as one of East Boston's main bus terminals, making it crucial the station remain open to provide public transportation to area residents. This section of the MBTA Blue Line also uses a catenary system for traction power. The removal of the old catenary system coupled with the station traffic would make the demolition portion of the contract particularly complex.

The J.F. White project team worked closely with the owner to produce and implement an innovative plan allowing public access to the train platform while the removal of the old station took place. The project benefited from the collaboration of various J.F. White Divisions. New construction work included earthwork, utilities, cast-in-place concrete, masonry and miscellaneous site improvement. J.F. White Electrical Division performed all electrical work on this project including site electrical, signal systems and catenary work along with general electrical work in the station.
