Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations

Job Highlights:

  • 2 - 69kv cables through six existing manholes
  • Removal of one circuit without damage to other existing circuits
  • Splice and terminate 69kv EPR cable

J. F. White's Electrical team was contracted to remove and replace two existing PILC 69kv cable circuits and the associated oil supply equipment (installed in 1967 and 1971) with two new 69kv EPR cable circuits, each approximately 2,700 feet in length. The existing concrete-encased 4-inch conduit and 6 cast-in-place concrete splicing manholes were to be used for installation of the new cables.

Key elements of the project were the cable replacement sequence and the on-time completion of the first cable replacement. This was due to the fact that one of the existing cables was damaged and permanently out of service; and in order to have two circuits energized for the summer load period, the damaged cable needed to be replaced immediately, with the second being replaced in the fall.
