69 kv Logan Substation

Job Highlights:

  • Installation of new 69kv Switch Station
  • Cut in of new control sequence between Shrewsbury Electric & National Grid
  • Excavation of new duct bank under and around existing 69kv transformers

 


J. F. White’s Electrical team installed a new 69 kv switching station at the Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations’ Logan Substation, and also upgraded the relay systems at both Logan and Rolfe Avenue Substations.

The work at Logan Substation included:
  • excavation and backfill for the new equipment foundations, ductbank and conduit system for the power and control cables
  • installation of the grounding system for the new equipment, including connection to the existing ground system
  • installation of the electrical switching equipment, bus work, structures and associated hardware, as well as all secondary power and control cables
  • a new relay panel and cable tray system in the existing control house
  • modification of the existing 69 kv oil-filled termination compartments to remove cable terminations

The Rolfe Avenue Substation work included the modification of the existing 69 kv cable pothead support head to accommodate new polymer cable terminations; removal and replacement of two existing relay panels on the existing duplex relay and control cabinets; and the replacement of existing electromechanical relays with new microprocessor-based relays.
