NSTAR Submarine Cable #91

Project Highlights:
  • Conduit excavation and repair in sensitive surf zone.
  • Submerged operations from shoreside and floating equipment
  • Shallow draft boats and barge worked in 2ft - 15ft of water
  • Cable splicing and repair in compliance with NStar

50 ton expandable reel trailer used to deploy 550LF of armored submarine cable

The submarine cable repair was completed in a difficult area near the Falmouth shoreline in shallow water with a rock jetty immediately adjacent to the work site.  This limited the size/draft of floating equipment and impacted our marine operations.  Completion of the cable repair was executed despite the disruptions created by sea conditions and adverse weather.

J.F.White electricians worked a 24 hr. shift to complete the cable splicing.  A heated temporary structure was assembled to provide a proper splice environment.

Joint efforts of J. F. White Diving, Electrical and Civil Divisions were required for excavating, cable evaluation, and the design and execution o  an approved repair plan.
