Lovejoy

This CA/T park project consisted of pile-supported timber and precast or cast in place river walkways under each side of the North Washington Bridge. Additionally, a park was built along with a tennis court.

In order to construct the concrete pier walkway on the Boston side, low freeboard barges and a small minipile rig were utilized under the North Washington Bridge. On either side (east and west), a 100-ton crane and crane barge was used to drive the 30 pipe piles. 30 precast panels (ranging from 8 to 10 tons each) were set into place using two different crane barges, one for open-air picks and a second system of Shugarts barges for under-bridge locations.

In order to construct the timber walkway on the Charlestown side, minipiles were installed during the low tide cycles. After the minipiles were installed, plastic piles were coupled onto the minipiles with steel sleeve connections to the steel frame. Subsequently, a timber frame and decking were built.
