CSX #3 Bridge Bundle

J.F. White and it’s Joint Venture partner E.T.&L. were awarded MassDOT’s Design/Build project which consisted of increasing the vertical clearance of seven (7) bridges from Worcester to West Brookfield to a minimum of twenty‐one (21”0) feet above existing CSX railroad tracks to allow for the passage of “doubledecker” freight trains.

Complete bridge replacements in Worcester, Charlton‐ Jones Rd, Charlton‐Route 31, West Brookfield‐Route 67 and West Brookfield‐Long Hill Road included demolition of existing structure, structural steel erection, cast‐in‐place concrete walls, abutment and deck. Installation of handrails and fences.

Existing superstructures were jacked and raised in Brookfield‐Route 148 and Spencer‐Route 49 in order to achieve the minimum twenty‐one (21’) foot clearance.

Accelerated Bridge Techniques including the use of precast footings, abutment beams, wingwall footings and wingwalls and precast deck beam units were used at the West Brookfield – Long Hill Road site in order to complete bridge in sixty (60) days.
