Brigham and Women's Hospital

Project Highlights:

excavated over 100,000 cubic yards of soil

J.F. White Contracting was contracted by William A. Berry & Sons, Inc for four separate project packages for the Brigham & Women’s Hospital. The Excavation Package consisted of site demolition, site grading, slurry wall support, excavation, dewatering and utilities relocations.

The new building included a three story basement area below Francis Street. During construction Francis Street needed to be relocated resulting in the slurry wall systems being installed in two phases. A structural concrete slab bearing on LBE's was constructed to support Francis Street above. Once complete, J. F. White excavated the soil from beneath the roadway slab.

Excavation and tie-back installation began in November 2006. Over 100,000 cubic yards of soil was excavated and disposed of in three months. Excavation was completed ahead of schedule in February 2007 allowing an early start for the concrete package and met an accelerated structural steel schedule for William A. Berry.

Contract value: $7,100,000.
