J. F. White was contracted by the City of Cambridge for the Porter Square Drainage and Surface Improvements project. There was a considerable artistic component of the project in the construction of a pedestrian plaza located between Massachusetts Avenue and the Porter Square Shopping Center.
The plaza construction included –
- installation of an arched steel wall
- construction of a field stone masonry wall
- construction of a handicap ramp and stairway
- installation of precast concrete pavers
- furnishing and placing of granite site boulders
- landscaping
- installation of irrigation and plaza lighting
- placement of site features as directed by the City Arts Department.
The scope of work performed by J. F. White as part of this project also included installation of drain structures and piping, water piping, signalized intersection reconstruction, roadway and sidewalk reconstruction, curbing ductbank and roadway lighting installation.
