J.F. White's Electrical team contracted with two conveyor companies, Vanderlande Industries, Inc., and FKI Logistex to upgrade four baggage handling rooms at Logan International Airport. The modifications were designed to meet the new "Home Land Security" FAA regulations implemented after September 11th. Logan Airport was the first airport in the nation to meet these FAA regulations and achieve 100% completion.
To upgrade the new state-of-the-art explosive detection equipment, J.F. White installed power and controls to feed the new baggage-screening conveyor without disrupting the daily operation of the existing system. Labor forces worked around the clock to keep the baggage handling center operational at all times. Due to extreme security systems implemented after the events of September 11th, this upgrade was a challenging process. All labor on the jobsite needed security escorts and were required to sign in and out of the jobsite. These stringent security measures made it difficult to receive parts and supplies because all packages required security checks.
Despite these challenges, this project, that would have normally required 18 months to finish, was completed in only 3 months. This achievement demonstrates J.F. White's capabilities to overcome obstacles and work efficiently as a team to meet project deadlines.
