J.F. White begins replacement of amtrak bridge
J.F. White recently began work on this Connecticut DOT project which consists of the replacement of an existing Amtrak railroad bridge over Route 1, and 2,800 ft. of Route 1 reconstruction in Branford, CT. The new structure will be two bridges, each utilizing a thru-girder floor beam-joist system spanning 120 ft. to support 1 track each. Service for the two tracks carrying the Acela trains at speeds of up to and over 80 mph cannot be interrupted. In order to achieve this goal, night shift work will be required to install 2,500 ft. of drilled soldier pile and lagging walls to support the track shifts required while the new bridges are constructed and the old bridge is demolished. Other project aspects include jacking and rolling the 2 new bridges together into their final configuration, a 252 ft. concrete retaining wall, box culvert to cross under Route 1, and a 54” jacked pipe beneath the tracks.
