Harvard University SFP Garage

Project Highlights:
  • 9,880 sf steel sheeting
  • Dewatering system of 3 deep wells and 2 observation wells.
  • Underpinning of 6 column footings with 10 pits per footing.

Located at the corner of Western Avenue and Soldiers Field Road, the SFP Garage Project serves as an entrance way to the One Western Avenue parking facility, which occupies more
than 625 vehicles.

J.F. White was contracted to install steel sheeting and a grout permeation wall to create a "bathtub” like effect within the area being excavated. An extravagant dewatering system was
installed to lower the water table and six column footings were underpinned, prior to final grading and compaction.

The site was a DEP listed site and the project team had to
dispose of 7 different classifications of soil, which required either
a Bill of Lading or Material Shipping Record. Contamination was
a problem on the site requiring extensive coordination to track
and dispose of 100 truckloads of material.

Contract value: $1,472,000.
