Replacement of I-91 NB & SB Over Rte. 5 and B&M RR and Over Hockanum Rd. in Northampton, MA

J.F. White was recently awarded the Bridge Replacements on I-91 of Rte. 5 and B&M RR and Hockanum Rd. in Northampton, MA. The work under this contract consists of replacing Bridge No N-19-059 (NB & SB) which carries I-91 over Route 5 and the B&M Railroad, and Bridge N-19-060 (NB & SB) which carries I-91 over Hockanum Road in Northampton, MA. The work consists of:

  • The demolition of the existing superstructures and the entire substructures.
  • Construction of 2 temporary bridges for traffic crossovers and phased construction of Northbound and Southbound structures.
  • New bridge structure consisting of:
    • Conventional cast-in-place concrete abutments and piers with spread footings.
    • New steel rolled beams
    • New cast-in-place composite bridge deck construction.
  • Curbing and new 5-foot sidewalk on the west side of Route 5.
  • 2 New signalized Intersection on Route 5.
  • I-91 widening with paving, guardrail and traffic controls.
  • Route 5 and Hockanum Road milling, paving, curb and traffic controls.
  • Improve approach and bridge drainage.
  • Maintain traffic operation during construction.

Rehabilitation of Fairmount Line Bridges over East Cottage Street and Norfolk Avenue

J.F. White was recently awarded the construction contract for the Rehabilitation of Fairmount Line Bridges over East Cottage Street and Norfolk Avenue in Boston, MA by the MBTA.

The project scope involves replacement of railroad overpass superstructures and substructure improvements.

  • Abutment improvements include installation of micropiling, tieback anchors and concrete repairs
  • New structural steel bridge spans with ballasted decks and trackwork will be installed during weekend track outages.

Additional work items include surface restoration, installation of bridge deck storm drainage facilities, and installation of railroad signal facilities.
