West Kingston Substation Upgrades

Project Highlights:
  • Welding and installation of rigid aluminum tubular bus.
  • Assembled all structures and set devices upon them.
  • Addition to existing structure

J. F. White's Electrical Group was contracted by NGRID to expand the West Kingston RI Substation No. 62.

The work consisted of expanding the yard to accommodate three new overhead 115kv transmission lines and two bays of breaker-and-a-half bus layout. Two of the new 115kv circuit breakers and associated disconnects were installed in the existing 115kv bay which was reconstructed for three future 115kv circuit breakers. We also constructed a new bay that will have space for three new and three future 115kv circuit breakers, along with three new single phase 115kv CT'S.

Motor operated airbreak switches were installed for the remaining 115kv line. Included in this contract was the installation of a rigid aluminum tubular bus, a new cable trench in the new expanded 115kv yard along with new underground duct banks connecting the new cable trench to the existing control house.

New switchboard panels and control wiring were installed in the existing control house for control and protection of the 115kv equipment.
