J.F. White’s electrical team planned, procured and installed all electrical work for this design build project. This MWRA owned, 115-million gallon, below ground, covered water storage facility, located in Weston, MA, replaced the existing 205-million “open” Norumbega Reservoir. This facility will protect treated drinking water from natural and harmful contaminant, prior to distributing to over 2 million customers in over 30 cities and towns in the Metropolitan Boston area.
The water tank is designed to be unmanned and able to be fully operated from remote locations, via the communication tower by utilizing the MWRA's SCADA system. J. F. White's electrical installation included the normal power local and remote operation of the influent and effluent valve operations, site lighting, security, instrumentation and fire alarm systems. If normal power is lost, an emergency generator and UPS systems will provide enough power to continue operations of selected critical equipment, instrumentation, and controls to allow for uninterrupted water flow.
