Neponset River Bridge Rehabilitation Phase II

MassDOT contracted J. F. White to reconstruct the Neponset River Bridge a major artery for commuters from the South Shore and local communities. Work included complete deck, sidewalk, barrier wall and lighting demolition on both north and south bound lanes during daytime traffic.

Work was performed in 4 Phases with traffic in adjacent lanes requiring the implementation of well thought out traffic management plans that included traffic relocation, temporary diversions and inclusion of a swing lane to control traffic volumes.

J. F. White placed 220,000 sf of concrete deck, installed 2.1 million lbs of re-steel, placed 4,800 lf of barrier walls, 3,300 lf of fascia wall and 16,400 lf of bridge curb. Work also included some soil compaction, grouting below the existing piers for earth quake stability.

The job team worked in harmony and communicated with local businesses, abutters,and City Official as well as MassDOT to minimize the impacts to the community and commuters on this high visibility project.
