This RIDOT project J.F. White utilized the Accelerated Bridge Construction method to replace the Pawtucket Avenue Bridge in East Providence over the I-195 Corridor.  The Bridge is one of the most heavily traveled bridges in East Providence with approximately 23,000 vehicles per day.  With staged Traffic Maintenance Plans the project was maintained vehicular traffic on both I-195 and Pawtucket Avenue for the full extent of the project.
Bridge replacement work included the full demolition of the bridge substructure including pier caps, columns and footings, as well as the partial demolition of the abutments and wing walls.  J.F.  White utilized traditional cast-in-place methods for the substructure reconstruction.  In addition, the replacement bridge superstructure included the installation of twelve superstructure modular units (SMUs) comprised of steel beams with composite plant concrete decking and the use of Ultra-High Performance Concrete for the closure pours.
The scope of work also included: removal and replacement of concrete median barrier along I-195, related road and utility construction along ramp DR-6, design and installation of a new overhead sign structure, pavement, curbing, sidewalks.
